FAQ

WHAT IS AN ELECTIVE PRENATAL ULTRASOUND?

Perfect Preview offers 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD LIVE ultrasound images to enhance the bond between your family and your unborn baby.

Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Perfect Preview must already be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by your provider to confirm your due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues

Perfect Preview offers you additional time to enjoy your baby through early gender determination and photos for you and your family to share.

IS IT SAFE?  ARE THERE ANY RISKS TO ME OR MY BABY?

Extensive studies over 40 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to a mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D scanning, exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning. 3D and 4D ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. Your 3D/4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

Yes, an appointment is necessary for all of our services.  We schedule just one family at a time to ensure the most quality experience possible.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR AN EARLY GENDER DETERMINATION... AND WHY CAN'T MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE TELL ME EARLY?

Perfect Preview begins early gender determinations ultrasounds at 13 weeks gestation.  By that point, your baby's genitalia is fully developed and can be identified with accuracy by an ultrasound.  We will be confident in our assessment.  Additionally, we back our 14+ week gender determinations by a $1,000 correct gender guarantee!

So, why doesn't your doctor tell you earlier?  In most cases, a doctor's office will schedule an eight week dating ultrasound to prepare your due date and to be sure you are correctly scheduled for a 12-13 week Nuchal Translucency ultrasound.  During that NT scan, a baby girl's genitalia is often very swollen while a baby boy's genitalia may not be fully developed.  Your sonographer and doctor understand it is just too early to know with total accuracy at that time.  So, they will wait until your 18-20 week Anatomy ultrasound to give you the exciting news!  However, by 13-14 weeks, even the latest little developers can be identified as a Boy or Girl, which is why you don't have to wait!

I'M PLANNING A REVEAL PARTY... CAN YOU PUT THE BABY'S GENDER IN AN ENVELOPE?

Yes!  Your visit is totally customized and we will do anything to assist you with your gender reveal!  We will shut off the television screen while your baby's gender is being identified.  Once completed, we will spend the rest of your visit peeking into your little one's world.  You will receive a DVD with your package, so you may re-watch the scan in its entirety once you know the gender!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TIME FOR A 3D/4D/HD LIVE ULTRASOUND... AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Perfect Preview recommends any time after 24 weeks gestation.  Between 24-29 weeks gestation, we will see more of your baby in a photo (head, torso, arms, legs) and we can get a wide variety of photos because your baby will have more room to move.  By 30+ weeks, your baby will keep getting chubbier and give us more facial expression and facial detail.  This would be the best time to see who and what your baby will look like once he/she is born!

The difference between the views is actually very simple.  A 3D view is a still image, similar to a picture your camera takes... while the 4D view is a moving image, similar to a picture your video camera takes.  The HD LIVE view is the very latest technology which shows a baby in an even more life-like view with stunning quality and detail.  Perfect Preview was the first elective ultrasound facility to upgrade to this advanced technology in Western New York in order to give our families the very best images!

ARE FAMILY MEMBERS ALLOWED?

Yes. In fact, we encourage you to invite family and friends to attend. This is a joyous and wonderful experience, one that can be shared with your family and loved ones. We can comfortably accommodate 10 to 12 people. Our seating is specifically arranged so that everyone in your party will have an excellent view of our large screen 4D images of the baby. Please bring your baby’s siblings with you as we have no age restrictions. As a matter of fact, we encourage children to cuddle with their Mommy on the ultrasound bed while the Ultrasound is being performed!  We will make them a special part of this experience, too!

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY ULTRASOUND?

WATER!!  Hydration, for at least 3-5 days prior to your appointment,  is crucial for the quality of your baby's photos.  However, you will NOT need a full bladder on the day of your appointment - so please allow yourself to be comfortable.

DOES INSURANCE COVER THE COST OF THE ULTRASOUND?

At this point, insurance does not cover the costs of our ultrasounds. Since this is an elective procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay the cost of this ultrasound as an out of pocket expense. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, debit cards... and your Health Savings Account card should work!
